By the collaboration of Earthquake and Volcano Information Center (Director: Prof. Kenji Satake) and The university of Tokyo Interfaculty Initiative in information Studies Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies (Director: Prof. Atsushi Tanaka), a system was invented for distributing Early Warning System, using on-campus network. And the providing of the system in our university began on 18th April, via Division for Environment, Health and Safety (Director: Executive board member/ VP. Norimichi Kojima). This system made the Early Warning System possible by installing several distribution server within the campus (3 servers for now, but may be increased according to its utility), and via the UTnet (the on-campus network). This system provides the expected earthquake intensity and the given time, according to the location they receive in each of the campus (Hongo, Komaba and Kashiwa campus). The special aspect of this system is that we can use the Early Warning System via Web browsers such as Windows, Macintosh and Linux. But because of this, a numerous simultaneous access is expected, causing delay in correspondence. In order to solve this, we load-balanced by preparing several distribution servers and tuned the program to make it possible to use in many more locations within the campus. Additionally, we introduced the instructions via Environmental Safety room in each of the department amongst the Division for Environment, Health and Safety, so that the system will be applied appropriately in each of the department. We are to be continuously working on this system, auditing the system being used, in hope that this will contribute to disaster mitigation. |
